YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Singer Raves About The New CORNERSTONE Album
June 9, 2003CORNERSTONE, the project featuring ROYAL HUNT bassist Steen Mogensen and ex-RAINBOW/current YNGWIE MALMSTEEN vocalist Doogie White, are in the process of recording their third album, tentatively due in the fall.
"I am bursting at the seams, waiting to get on the plane and get started on the singing," White writes on his official web site. "This is the strongest [CORNERSTONE] album so far. The songs are so alive and vibrant. We really are getting a distinctive sound that is unlike any other bands I've heard recently. These are the best songs I have been involved in the writing of. The variety in the songwriting from the music to the melody and lyrics takes you from the thundering riffing of 'When the Hammer Falls' to the lament of 'Man Without Reason' to the driving sound of '21st Century Man'.
Regarding the location of the recording studio, White writes, "We have hired a house outside Copenhagen just to give us a more relaxed atmosphere to work in. We just wanted a different vibe. It will be a throwback to the way Ritchie [Blackmore] and I worked on [RAINBOW's 'Stranger In Us All']. Minus the seances. Steen really is getting an immense sound and as always Kasper's guitar playing is superb."
As for the possibility of doing a few gigs to promote the upcoming CD, Doogie says, "We will be touring in support of the new album later this year. There has been talk of us being guests on the HTP tour with Joe Lynn Turner and Glenn Hughes. That would be very cool. I could get free singing lessons every night."
